MOVING: A year after Major Akshay Girish was martyred, daughter Naina speaks about the Army; recollects conversations with her papa

Meghna Girish, the mother of Major Akshay Girish Kumar, who was martyred during the Nagrota terrorist attack in 2016, recently took to Twitter and posted a heartfelt video, where the martyred soldier's daughter, Naina could be heard speaking about the Indian Army and recollecting the conversations with her 'papa'. 

In the video, Akshay Girish's daughter can be heard speaking about the important role the Indian Army plays in the lives of every citizen. Starting her every sentence with 'The Army is', the young toddler says ' The Army is to make us love. The Army is to fight with bad uncles'. 

Further, she can also be heard saying that this is what was told to her by her father Akshay Girish.The video ends with Naina saluting and loudly saying 'Jai Hind'.

Major Girish's family has a proud tradition of serving in the forces. His father retired as a Wing Commander in the Indian Air Force and his grandfather, as a Colonel from the Indian Army.

Major Akshay Girish was chosen to lead his unit’s Quick Reaction Team(QRT) to fight the terrorists and showed exemplary leadership in assessing the danger when terrorists attacked an Artillery unit at about 5:30 am in Nagrota and killed four soldiers before entering two residential buildings.

Major Akshay and his QRT fought courageously and kept the terrorists pinned down. However, in doing so, the Major was hit by 2 bullets and finally laid down his life after a grenade was launched at him.
