"Removal of Article 370 is the solution to all problems of Kashmir": Anupam Kher

Article 370 grants special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir, while Article 35A, incorporated into the Constitution in 1954, provides special rights and privileges to the citizens of the state.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher said that all the issues in Kashmir can be resolved if Article 370 is removed. Anupam Kher, a Kashmiri Pandit, has been vocal about issues that affect the Valley. Addressing the same, he said:

"Removal of Article 370 is the solution to all problems of Kashmir," said the 64-year-old actor when he was asked if the BJP will work for the Kashmiri Pandits now that it is in power.

The BJP, in its manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, reiterated its demand for retraction of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution which are provisions specific to Jammu and Kashmir.

On BJP winning simple majority in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Mr Kher said:

 "The whole country is in favour of the Modi government. It is not a small majority, it is a huge mandate. The opposition should now quietly let this government work."

Mr. Kher had campaigned extensively for his wife and BJP leader Kirron Kher, who won the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat for a second term.

Narendra Modi, the PM-elect, led the NDA to a mega win sweeping the Lok Sabha elections winning 352 of the 542 seats polled with BJP alone notching up 303 seats.

Describing May 23, when the BJP rode back to power with a massive mandate, as a "historic" day, Yoga guru Ramdev on Monday said it should be celebrated either as "Modi Diwas or public welfare day".     

"May 23 is a historic day. It should be celebrated either as Modi Diwas or Jan Kalyan Diwas (public welfare day),"Ramdev told reporters on the sidelines of a programme to launch milk and dairy products of Patanjali.
