UP woman allegedly assaulted by neighbours for rescuing animals

A UP woman was allegedly beaten up by her neighbours for supporting the cause of rescuing strays. The incident came to light after CCTV footage went viral.

A woman in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj was allegedly beaten up by her neighbours on Monday for supporting the cause of rescuing stray animals. The incident came to light after CCTV footage of the incident went viral.

'Neighbours raised objections to her rescuing stray animals'

According to reports, the neighbours of the animal activist objected to her work of rescuing stray animals in the area. According to the police, the woman runs an NGO for rescuing stray animals. The incident happened in Mumfordganj area in Prayagraj district.

"The people in the neighbourhood raised objections to her activities of rescuing stray animals and through the CCTV footage, we can see that that they are misbehaving with her," said Superintendent of Police Brajesh Srivastava while speaking to a news agency. The police have received a complaint and further investigations are underway.

A young woman takes own life after being told to abandon her dog

In another incident, a young woman took her life at her residence on November 2, in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore after her neighbours asked her to abandon her pet dog. 24-year-old Kavitha was working as a document writer in a private firm in Periyanaikenpalayam. She was taking care of her pet dog Caesar for the past two years. Owing to heavy rains accompanied by a thunderstorm on Wednesday night, a scared Caeser kept barking continuously out of fear. The barking irked neighbours and they complained about it to Kavitha's father. The next day, Kavitha's father scolded her and asked her to abandon the dog.

NGO in AP filed a case alleging that panchayat has poisoned 300 stray dogs

Meanwhile, an animal welfare Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Andhra Pradesh filed a case against panchayat officials of Kanteru Village in Guntur district last week alleging that they have poisoned 300 stray dogs in the last 20 days. According to reports, the complaint was filed in the Tadikonda Mandal police station. The police have registered an FIR and filed a case under the cruelty to animals act, stated reports.
