June 21 has been designated as World Yoga Day following PM Modi's suggestion in his speech at the UN General Assembly in 2014, months after he was first elected to office. Since then, not only India but the world celebrates Yoga Day with thousands participating in mass Yoga events across the world.
On June 5, Prime Minister wrote, "On June 21, we will mark Yoga Day 2019. I urge you all to make yoga an integral part of your life and also inspire others to do the same. The benefits of Yoga are tremendous."
In 2018, the Prime Minister had shared several 3D videos explaining Pawanmuktasana, Setu Bandhasana, Shalabhasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Vajrasana, Vrikshasana, Bhujangasana among others. He also participated in a Yoga session in Argentina at last year's G20.
Carrying the trend forward in 2019, the Prime Minister has been consistent in proliferating Yoga through its Twitter handle.
