There’s only name common to some of the iconic patriotic songs of the country today, Lata Mangeshkar. From ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Saare Jahaan Se Achcha’, ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo’ to movie songs like ‘Luka Chuppi’ and ‘Ek Tu Hi Bharosa’, one can’t even imagine it without the legendary singer’s voice. Another such song is set to be added to this glorious list with the legend lending her voice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poem ‘Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki’ which he has dedicated to the soldiers of the country.

Mangeshkar on Saturday tweeted a video where she starts by saying, “Namaskar. A few days ago, I was listening to India’s Honourable Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi’s speech. He had recited a few lines of a poem, which I feel in reality is every Indian’s thought (Man Ki Baat) too. I have recorded it,  and today I dedicate it to our brave soldiers and the citizens of the nation. Jai Hind!”

She then beautifully sings the lines from the poem that will surely give you goosebumps. The visuals in the song feature throwback moments of Mangeshkar, some alongside PM Modi, along with other moments that celebrate the progress of the country.

Addressing a gathering in Rajasthan’s Churu hours after the Indian Air Force retaliated the dastardly attack in Pulwama by destroying terrorist camps along the Line of Control, Prime Minister Modi repeated the same poetry that he recited in 2014.

"Saugandh mujhe iss mitti ke, mai desh nahi rukne dunga
Mai desh nahi rukne deunga, mai desh nahi jhukne dunga
Mera vachan hai bharat ko tera shesh nahi jhukne dunga
Saugandh mujhe iss mitti ke, mai desh nahi rukne dunga
Jag raha hai desh mera haar bharat vaasi jetaga
Saugandh mujhe iss mitti ke, mai desh nahi rukne deunga
Hume phir se dhorana hai aur khud ko yaad delana hai
na bhatkege na atkenge kuch bhi ho mai desh nahi mitne dunga"
