Bar Council of India condemns the murder of UP Bar Council President Darvesh Yadav

The Bar Council of India has condemned the murder of Darvesh Yadav, the President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, who was shot dead on Wednesday in the premises of the Agra Civil Court.

The Bar Council of India has condemned the murder of Darvesh Yadav, the President of Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, who was shot dead on Wednesday in the premises of the Agra Civil Court.

Yadav had been elected as the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council's president just days earlier, on 9th June and was the first woman to hold the position.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Bar Council body has demanded a strong security detail and a compensatition of Rs 50 lakhs for the deceased's kin from the state government.

The assailant has been identified as Manish Sharma, a close aide of Yadav. She was attending a welcome ceremony at the court when Sharma fired three bullets following which, he shot himself once. Both of them were taken to the hospital, but Yadav succumbed to the injuries while Manish Sharma is being treated. 

"Darvesh Yadav was shot dead by her associate Manish Sharma during an event in Agra court premises today. He came and shot 3 bullets at her. She was taken to hospital where she died. Manish is critically injured and admitted to the hospital," said Ajay Anand, ADG, Agra.

The ADG Zone, Agra tweeted:

"In connection with the attack on Ms. Darvesh, the President of Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh on civil premises in Agra, an ADG Zone immediate incident was conveyed by Shri Ajay Anand on site of the attack."

Both Sharma and Yadav are believed to have been working together since a long time, both professionally and politically The police are further investigating the incident.
