Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and congratulated Sonia Gandhi on being elected Leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party. He further said that "under her leadership, the Congress will prove to be a strong & effective opposition party, that will fight to defend the Constitution of India".

This development has come a week after party chief Rahul Gandhi offered to resign from his post after the massive defeat in the 2019 polls in which the party won just 52 of 542 parliamentary seats. However, the Congress Working Committee rejected Rahul's offer to resign by unanimously passing a resolution.
