Congress President Post | Sachin Pilot Or Jyotiraditya Scindia: Here's How The 'young Leader' Lobby's Frontrunners For Party Chief Stack Up

Rahul Gandhi resigned as the Congress President in a dramatic exit by posting his 4-page resignation letter on Twitter on July 3 taking responsibility of the loss of the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. While the Grand Old Party has been in the dilemma to choose a new party chief, earlier in the day, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh issued a statement, hoping to see "another dynamic youth leader" as the party president to transform it.

Interestingly, Captain Singh is not the only leader in the party who is vouching for the young leaders to take on as the successor of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress chief.

There is a chorus among within the Congress party for a call for a new chief from the young members of the party, with the two names coming to the forefront being Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot and Uttar Pradesh (West) General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia for the post. Reports are emerging as the CWC looks for a new leader to take the legacy of the Grand Old Party and will bring a long-waited transformation in the party.

Sachin Pilot

As per sources, the 41-year-old Rajasthan Deputy CM is the front-runner for the post of Congress chief, with this connect among the youth and the old guards equally. Son of Congress stalwart, the late Rajesh Pilot, Sachin Pilot was the face of the campaign for Congress party in the Rajasthan assembly elections in November-December 2018 and he delivered to the best of his efforts. While the chief ministerial position was given to senior leader Ashok Gehlot after party's splendid win in the Rajasthan assembly polls, Pilot was given the chair of Deputy CM, to much disappointment of a lot of leaders in the state. With Rahul Gandhi backing him throughout Sachin Pilot can undoubtedly revive the Congress party amid the crisis.

Jyotiraditya Scindia

The face of Congress party in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2018, Jyotiraditya Scindia led the party to throw out the incumbent BJP government with a splendid victory. Even as he was also not made the Chief Minister of the state, giving the chair to senior leader Kamal Nath, Scindia was handed over the big task to uplift the party in Uttar Pradesh making him the General Secretary for Western UP, along with Priyanka Gandhi. However, the Priyanka Gandhi-Jyotiraditya Scindia partnership failed to rejuvenate the party in UP in 2019 Lok Sabha election, with the party winning only 1 seat by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli. The 48-year-old leader holds a significant place in the Congress party, known to be a confidant of Rahul Gandhi in the Parliament.

Earlier in the day, Captain Amarinder Singh urged the Congress Working Committee to take note of the young leaders, aligned to the large youth population and with the grassroots connect.
