While BJP is on course to form a government in Haryana on Thursday, the road to a second term was rocky for CM Manohar Lal Khattar. Sources report that when Khattar was preparing to meet top leaders in Delhi to discuss when the BJP was neck-to-neck with the Congress, Central leadership had allegedly asked him to stay put in Chandigarh and focus on government formation. This development occurred as soon as Khattar's opponent former CM Bhupinder Hooda rushed to Delhi to huddle with leadership.

Sources further report that as soon as BJP emerged as the single largest party, it got the confidence to form the state government. The central leadership still believes that they will cross a tally of 40 seats by the time the last count is in. Currently, trends show that BJP is leading in 40 seats, while the Congress is leading in 31 seats.

Sources report that a few independent MLAs are also in touch with the party. Apart from this, sources have revealed that the 'kingmaker' party JJP playing a crucial role had agreed to join as an ally after BJP assured JJP chief Dushyant Chautala that the anti-Jat image under Khattar would be taken care off. Sources also reveal that it was the BJP allies - Akali Dal's Badals who brokered Dushyant swinging towards the BJP way due to their close ties with the Chautala family.

Battle witnessed for Haryana

While BJP took an initial lead in the morning in Haryana, the battle heated up soon as Congress made great strides in the state. BJP which had announced its 'Mission 75+', has been reduced to mere 40 seats, eluding the magic number of 44. Congress too had been neck-to-neck with BJP, with Haryana chief Bhupinder Hooda on a mission to unite 'all parties together to oust BJP'. While JJP chief Dushyant Chautala had maintained that they will have a meeting to decide whom to side with, both BJP and Congress had been eyeing his support.
