Hack:

  • BJP is projected to win 4 seats out of 4 in Himachal Pradesh
  • However, both the national parties and their allies, BJP and Congress face a dip in their vote share, thus predicting to be a gain for Others

With India inching closer and closer to general elections, the campaigns of political parties across the country are in full swing. In the pre-election hubbub, the prevailing scenario appears ever-changing, thus bringing in new shades to an already vibrant political landscape in the country in terms of seat-sharing, coalitions or fielding big names in different states. Republic TV and CVoter are back with the National Approval Ratings to give a complete national picture as to who will win if polls are held today.

With no shift in power, similar to the December projections, in Himachal Pradesh BJP continues to hold its strong ground by gaining all four seats that are up for grabs in the state.

In terms of vote share, the predictions are extremely similar to the predictions of December with NDA leading with 49.5%, followed by UPA at 38.7% thus lagging behind with a gap of 10.8%. Whereas, Others hold a vote-share of 11.9% standing last.

The NDA had got 53.5% vote share in 2014, while UPA had gotten 40.7 %, others had received 5.8%.

BJP and allies are predicted to face a drop in their vote share compared to the Parliamentary elections in 2014 by 4%, while UPA is predicted to see a drop of 2%.

Others are projected to gain due to the direct beneficiary of this reduction in the vote share of the two national parties.

The month to month ratings for the state in terms of vote share and seat share have more or less remained the same.

Seat Share

  • UPA-0
  • NDA-4
  • Total-4

Vote Share

  • UPA-38.7%
  • NDA-49.5%
  • Others-11.9%

Encompassing the current political situation in India, the significant strands to watch out for are various efforts to form 'united fronts' which appears to be a contest between those who were present at TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's mega-rally in Kolkata, and those, like Telangana CM KCR, who weren't, as well as another Nehru-Gandhi scion, Priyanka Gandhi, commencing her (active) political career after the Congress party was snubbed by Akhilesh Yadav's SP's and Mayawati's BSP's alliance in Uttar Pradesh despite the party's victory in three Hindi heartlands in the Assembly elections- Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Meanwhile, the BJP and Shiv Sena may have witnessed a thaw in their relationship with the Maharashtra government sanctioning Rs 100 crore for a Balasaheb Thackeray memorial. At the same time, pro-Mandir organisations RSS and VHP still pushing the BJP to bring in an Ordinance on the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya despite the Supreme Court also currently hearing the case.

The beginning of 2019 also saw parliament giving a green signal to provide 10 percent reservation in jobs and educational institutions to the economically weaker sections in the general category. It also remains to be seen what the Modi government's last budget holds for the people of India.

The results of 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.
