Gorakhpur: In a distressing incident, a 23-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur died by suicide hours after he was allegedly assaulted by four men, as per media reports.
Superintendent of Police (North) Jitendra Kumar Srivasatva said that the victim knew of the accused via social media. He added that the victim befriended Karan (Ashutosh Mishra) a while ago. Karan then invited him to his house in Chiluatal.
Last week, Karan took the victim to a hotel, where the two were joined by his three friends. Things turned bad after the four men held the victim hostage, sexually assaulted him, and beat him with a belt.
Reports suggest that the group also allegedly recorded the assault and then threatened the man to post it online if he didn't pay them money.
Police officials said that the accused used the victim's phone to transfer money and buy beer.
The victim was staying with his brother in a rented house and was preparing for competitive exams, said Srivastava.
Following this incident, the victim tried to file a complaint but due to jurisdictional issues, the FIR was not registered immediately. However, later on Friday, the FIR was finally lodged under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the SP said.
The officials said that the victim spoke to his nephew later that night and then died by suicide. His family found his body and then informed the police.
As of now, Karan along with two others has been detained, and the police are currently for the fourth suspect.
