4 Children Charred to Death as Haystack Catches Fire in Jharkhand's Chaibasa

Chaibasa: At least four children charred to death after a fire broke out in a haystack in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum area on Monday afternoon.

The police stated the incident at around 11 am in Giitilipi village in the Jagannathpur police station area in Chaibasa.

Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar told PTI, "A team has been sent to the spot for a detailed investigation."

The senior police official added that children were playing near the haystack when the fire broke out.

He further added that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be identified.

Last week, in a similar kind of instance, as many as three people were killed and one was reported to be injured after a massive fire broke out in a 12-storey building in Rajkot.

According to police officials, the blaze, triggered by a short circuit in a sixth-floor apartment of Atlantis Tower on the 150 Feet Ring Road, spread quickly, trapping several residents inside.

Among the three deceased, two were identified as Kalpesh Leuva and Mayur Leuva. However, the third victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities revealed that two of the deceased were outsiders who had come to the building for work.

Meanwhile, one injured resident was rushed to the hospital and is undergoing treatment. Officials have yet to disclose further details about their condition.

\Assistant Commissioner of Police BJ Chaudhary confirmed that around 40 residents were successfully rescued from the fire-stricken building. Five of them, trapped on the upper floors, were brought down using the fire brigade’s hydraulic crane.

"We have rescued nearly 40 people stranded on the upper floors due to thick smoke. Further investigation is underway,” Chaudhary told PTI.
