Gwalior: A fire broke out at the maternity ward of Kamla Raja Hospital in Gwalior on the night between Saturday and Sunday due to an electrical short circuit, officials confirmed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Swift Evacuation Ensures Patient Safety
Following the fire, approximately 150 patients from different hospital wards, including the maternity ward, were immediately shifted to the Super Specialty Hospital. Two fire tenders were deployed and successfully brought the situation under control.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vinod Singh stated that around 22-23 patients were in the affected section of the hospital when the fire broke out. "As soon as the fire started, patients were evacuated, but the smoke spread throughout the hospital. All patients have now been shifted safely," he said, adding that they were being examined for any effects of smoke inhalation.
Firefighters and Eyewitnesses Respond Promptly
Atibal Singh Yadav, a fire officer with the Gwalior Municipal Corporation, said that two fire tenders responded swiftly. "We received information about a fire in the maternity ward and immediately alerted six fire stations. Two tenders arrived quickly and controlled the blaze," he told ANI.

Eyewitnesses described the tense moments during the evacuation. One attendant said, "It was around 1:30 to 2 AM when we heard doctors and others screaming about a fire. Our patient was in the ICU, and we were scared. We saw patients trapped inside and broke a window using an oxygen cylinder to let the smoke out and help evacuate them."
Hospital Authorities Act Quickly
Dr. Rita Mishra, Assistant Superintendent of the Super Specialty Hospital, recalled the chaotic situation. "I received a call from a doctor about the fire. We rushed to the hospital, called the supervisors and cleaning staff. There was smoke everywhere, but Dr. Archana guided efforts to ventilate the area," she said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the short circuit and ensuring that safety measures are reinforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
