5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Leh-Ladakh, Strong Tremors Felt Across Region; No Casualties Reported

Ladakh: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Leh in Ladakh early Thursday morning, triggering tremors across the region. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 6:05 am IST on August 13 at a depth of 10 kilometres. NCS data placed the epicentre at 36.881°N latitude and 74.402°E longitude.

The shallow depth of the earthquake meant the tremors were felt strongly in the affected area. However, authorities have not reported any loss of life, injuries or structural damage so far.

Initial reports from the region indicate that the situation remains under control, with further assessments expected as authorities continue to monitor the aftermath.

The earthquake struck the mountainous Ladakh region, which is seismically active and has experienced tremors in the past. The latest quake comes amid heightened attention to seismic activity in the Himalayan belt.
