New Delhi: Delhi is set to witness another day of intense political chaos on Monday, with the metro stations in the heart of the national capital partially curbed and opposition ranks preparing to take to the streets.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that entry and exit gates at 6 metro stations will remain shut from 6 am to 4 pm, citing security considerations. The decision to close the metro stations was taken against the backdrop of the Opposition parties under the INDI Alliance gearing up for a march to the Supreme Court over what they describe as "vote chori".
Al though trains will continue to halt and interchange facilities will stay open at the affected stations, the commuters travelling have been advised to expect delays and plan alternative routes as security agencies review the evolving situation.
In a late-night update on X, the DMRC confirmed that Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat and Barakhamba Road will have their entry and exit points closed during the restriction window. The corporation stated that interchange access would remain available at all 6 locations and that the position would be reassessed by security agencies, with further advisories to follow.

Blow To INDI Alliance, CJI Declines Request For Meeting
The restrictions have been imposed as the INDI Alliance prepares for the protest, titled Chalo Delhi – March for Democracy. The alliance is demanding action against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral malpractice. Specifically, the marchers intended to press for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and a return to the paper ballot system.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had sought time with Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant between 4 pm and 5 pm on Monday to hand over a memorandum detailing their concerns. However, as per sources, the CJI declined the request, pointing out that similar issues are already pending before the Supreme Court. Sources further added that his reply was sent by email to both leaders. The sources added that the CJI conveyed to Rahul Gandhi that no directions could be issued on the administrative side and advised approaching the court through the established judicial process. It is understood that the matter could be taken up on Tuesday.

Opposition Rallies Support After Weekend Unrest
Rahul Gandhi, in a post on X, stated that the march would draw participation from opposition parties, youth groups, civil society organisations and all others who have faith in democracy and the Constitution. He alleged that young people who staged a peaceful protest in Delhi on Saturday were beaten up. Writing on X, he said, "Tomorrow, we will march to the Supreme Court as Indians, united beyond party, gender, caste, community and state."
The Congress has asserted that the leaders will assemble at the Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction at 1.30 pm before proceeding with the protest. Monday's action followed an INDI bloc march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk on Friday, after which opposition leaders submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu.
As central Delhi expected to remain on edge through the day, the residents have been urged to keep the metro closures in mind while making travel plans.
