Bengaluru: Former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has come under fresh scrutiny after investigators allegedly recovered a mobile phone containing around 80–90 pornographic videos from his cell at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

The phone was seized during a recent search operation inside the prison targeting high-profile inmates, according to Central Crime Branch (CCB) sources cited by India Today. Investigators reportedly found the videos during their examination of the device. Police sources also said the phone contained newspaper clippings featuring women in revealing clothes.

Authorities are now subjecting the device to detailed forensic examination. Investigators are examining the videos, images and other digital material to establish when the files were downloaded, their source and whether any of the material has relevance to ongoing criminal proceedings involving Revanna.

The raid also led to the recovery of a pen drive and a charger from the prison cell. Officials said no other prohibited items were found during the four-to-five-hour search operation.

The recovery has triggered action against prison officials. The Assistant Superintendent of the jail has been suspended, while a show-cause notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison over the incident.

A fresh FIR has also been registered following the seizure. An undertrial prisoner, identified as Pratap Rai and lodged in the same prison, has been named in the case.

The latest development comes days after the Karnataka High Court rejected Revanna’s plea seeking suspension of his life sentence and interim bail in the first rape case registered against him in Hassan district.

The court cited the gravity of the offence and the pendency of multiple sexual abuse cases while declining to grant relief, and expressed concerns that his release could affect witnesses and pending trials.

Revanna was convicted by a special court in August 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment for repeated sexual assault, voyeurism and destruction of evidence. He has denied the allegations and previously claimed that videos allegedly involving him were morphed. His appeal against the conviction remains pending before the Karnataka High Court.

With the fresh recovery, investigators are now expected to focus on how the mobile phone entered the prison, who had access to it and whether prison rules were violated. The forensic examination of the device is likely to determine the next course of action in the newly registered case.
