New Delhi: A police inspector in Agra has been caught on CCTV repeatedly slapping a shopkeeper. The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows Inspector Rajesh Sahu, posted at the Lohamandi Police Station, aggressively slapping the shopkeeper multiple times.
The incident occurred when the inspector and a constable arrived at the shop to serve a notice. In the video, the inspector can be seen asking the shopkeeper to get out of his shop before repeatedly slapping him in full view of the camera.
A woman had reportedly filed a complaint with the police accusing a shopkeeper of keeping her jewelry, worth Rs 2 lakh, as collateral but failing to return the items or provide any money in exchange.
Despite repeated requests from the police to receive a notice, the shopkeeper refused to cooperate. CCTV footage reveals that when the sub-inspector arrived at the shop and asked the shopkeeper to step outside, he refused.
The situation escalated when the officer slapped the shopkeeper multiple times. A customer was also present in the store during the incident. The shopkeeper explained that he could not leave as there were customers in the shop. The officer, visibly agitated, lost his temper and slapped the shopkeeper. He is also alleged to have snatched the shopkeeper’s mobile phone.
In response to the incident, the Agra police stated that an ACP-level officer is investigating the matter, and appropriate action will be taken once the probe is completed.
