Republic Finds Technical Snag

The Air India 191 Boeing 777 aircraft TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) failed mid-air. The pilots tried to reset the TCAS multiple times, but it did not work. The pilots did not find any mention of the TCAS' technical issue on the logsheet. The pilots then decided to descend the flight back to Mumbai at FL 280. During the air turn, the TCAS issue remained persistent. The Traffic Collision Avoidance System is responsible for preventing mid-air collision between aircraft by monitoring the airspace and by providing updates to the pilots.
