New Delhi: PM Modi is addressing the Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. Among other things, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched an attack on the Opposition with respect to the Constitution of India.

PM Modi has said that while the Opposition protested against the government for observing Constitution Day on January 26, are now ‘waving the Constitution in their hands’. In his words, "I can recall that when I had said in the Lok Sabha that we will be celebrating November 26 as Constitution Day...I am amazed that the people who are now jumping with the copy of Constitution had then objected to it, saying what was the need to bring Constitution Day when January 26 was already there."

PM Modi further says that he is where he is because of Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution which works as a light-house, a ‘marg darshak’ for the government.

As PM Modi continued with his address, the Opposition staged a walkout. Responding to this, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar said, “Today, they did not leave the House behind, they have left behind dignity. Today, they did not show me their back, they showed it to the Constitution of India.”

He further said, "There can be no bigger insult to the Constitution of India than this...I condemn their conduct...It is an occasion where they have challenged the Indian Constitution. They outraged the spirit of Indian Constitution, they have disregarded the oath they have undertaken...Indian Constitution is not something to hold in your hands, it is the book to way of life. I hope that they will self-introspect and walk that path of duty."

On the opposition's allegations that BJP will change the Constitution, PM Modi said, 'People voted for us as they know only we can safeguard Constitution.''
