Guwahati: Congress MLA Nurul Huda allegedly attacked Assam Deputy Speaker Numal Momin outside the State Assembly, leading to its adjournment.

In an exclusive footage accessed by Republic Media Network shows the exact moment when the Congress leader dressed in black approached and assaulted the Assam Deputy Speaker.

Following this incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that he received a WhatsApp message from Momin, who informed him of the attack and mentioned he was hospitalised.

"I got a WhatsApp from Momin that he was attacked by Nurul Huda and he is now hospitalised. I request the Speaker to file a police case as it happened outside the House and then police will investigate it," PTI reported quoting CM Sarma during the Question Hour.

"This will set a bad precedence that an indigenous tribal has been attacked inside the Assembly complex. This is going to be a big issue," he added.

Before the session, Congress legislators staged a sit-in protest outside the Speaker's chamber, demanding action against Kurmi.

Earlier, Momin was observed inside the Assembly, participating in the session but left shortly after. Meanwhile, the treasury bench, led by Sarma, vocally asserted that a tribal representative was attacked by the opposition.

Speaker Biswajit Daimary stated he has instructed officials to investigate the situation.

In response to the Chief Minister's claims, Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia called for a House Committee to examine the incident, suggesting it was more appropriate than involving the police, as the altercation occurred within the Assembly building.

Members of the opposition, including Congress, AIUDF, and CPI(M), protested in the Well of the House against Kurmi and the ruling party's remarks regarding the alleged attack on Momin.
