Assam Exam Papers Leak: Class 11 Math, Class 9 English Tests Cancelled

Guwahati/Barpeta: The Class 11 Mathematics paper of the Assam State Board and the Class 9 English paper of Barpeta district were leaked, forcing authorities to cancel the examinations on Thursday and lodge police complaints, officials confirmed.

Board Cancels Class 11 Maths Exam

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced the cancellation of the Higher Secondary First Year (Class 11) Mathematics exam, which was scheduled for March 21, 2025, citing "unavoidable reasons."

“The Higher Secondary First Year Mathematics exam, scheduled for March 21, 2025 (Afternoon Session), has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons,” Pegu stated in a post on X while sharing an official notification from the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).

He assured that a new date for the exam would be announced soon.

Authorities Confirm Paper Leak

A senior ASSEB official confirmed to PTI that the Mathematics paper had been leaked, leading to the cancellation.

“We are enquiring about the matter and will take legal action soon,” the official said.

The Class 11 board examinations had begun on March 6 and were scheduled to conclude on March 29.

Class 9 English Paper in Barpeta Leaked on Social Media

Earlier, the Class 9 English exam in Barpeta district, scheduled for March 20, 2025, was also cancelled after the question paper was leaked on social media, officials confirmed.

Barpeta Inspector of Schools, Ratul Kumar Das, issued an order informing all school heads in the district about the cancellation of the examination.

“I would like to inform you that the English paper of the Class 9 annual examination, scheduled for March 20, 2025, is hereby postponed due to unavoidable circumstances,” he said in the official order.

Officials Verify Paper Leak Claims

An official from the District Level Internal Examination Committee (DLIEC), speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the leak was noticed on Wednesday evening.

“We suspect that the paper went viral on social media. We are verifying all claims, but we cannot take any risks. So, we cancelled the examination,” the official said.

Following the leak, the DLIEC lodged a police complaint at Barpeta Sadar Police Station for further investigation.

The Class 9 examinations in Barpeta had begun on March 10 and were scheduled to end on March 22.
