Chennai: The DMK leadership passed a resolution condemning the Congress for betrayin the secular progressive alliance and joining hands with the TVK.
The meeting strongly condemned the decision of the Congress to move away from the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), adding that the party had failed to change its “old political character”.
The resolution mentioned that the Congress had secured one Rajya Sabha seat and 28 Assembly constituencies as part of the DMK-led alliance. It also accused the grand old party of shifting towards an alternative front within days.
This comes after DMK chief MK Stalin invited all its MLAs to the party headquarters to discuss its stance as the Opposition in the assembly.

DMK-Congress Rift
The fissure in the INDIA alliance was out in the open after the Congress gave its ascent to support the Vijay-led government in Tamil Nadu. In a scathing attack on the Congress, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai called the decision "myopic" and accusing the grand old party of having "backstabbed" INDIA alliance partners.
"I think this is a very short-sighted, myopic stand taken by the Congress, which they will regret. The 2029 big elections are coming, where we were very confident that we will be able to remove the BJP. But now, because of this decision by the Congress, it has made them a very unstable partner. The perception that is out in the entire country is that Congress cannot be trusted," he said.

Senior Congress leader Manickam Tagore had said the electoral outcome was clearly against the DMK government, even stating that “half the ministers in the Cabinet have lost their seats”.
“We faced collateral damage for no fault of ours,” Tagore said, expressing, "Should we stand with those rejected by the people’s verdict, or should we unite with the force that fought against BJP to stop it from ruling Tamil Nadu?”
