Kolkata: In a significant drug bust, Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a 3 kg of heroin worth Rs 6.77 crore at the Pirojpur border outpost along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, an official statement said.
The operation unfolded when two individuals were spotted dumping the contraband on the Indian side of the border.
Upon noticing the suspicious activity, BSF guards gave chase, but the duo managed to flee into the nearby area.
However, the border security personnel successfully apprehended one of the men, who was later identified as a Bangladeshi national.
“The second suspect, also believed to be Bangladeshi, managed to escape,” officials said.
The arrested individual admitted to his involvement in cross-border smuggling operations.
During interrogation, he revealed that he had been tasked with transporting the heroin by his Indian associates, with the intent of delivering it to someone across the border in Bangladesh.
He further divulged that he had previously engaged in similar illegal activities as part of a larger smuggling network operating across the Indo-Bangladesh border, BSF said.
The search for the second suspect is ongoing as authorities continue to strengthen their vigilance along the porous border.
