Poonch Anti-terror operation LIVE: A day after four Army jawans were martyred and three others were injured after an Army vehicle was attacked by terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces on Friday launched a massive search operation in Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, under the jurisdiction of Surankote police station. 

As per Republic TV reports, aerial monitoring is also being conducted and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to track down the terrorists who attacked two Army vehicles in the area. Besides, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has also reached the attack site. Stay tuned to this place for all the latest updates in Poonch.

  • "It is an extremely difficult operation. Intelligence agency needs to identify these people, police need to get into this. In winter, it becomes very difficult to carry out operations but soldiers are doing it, I salute them", Major General Rajan Kochhar, Defence Expert told Republic TV.
  • Sources revealed Republic TV reporter Gursimran Singh that 8-10 groups of terrorists are active in the Rajouri-Poonch region. 
  • "Each group has 2-3 terrorists who were trained for Jungle Warfare sent from Pakistan part of the group. Terrorists using offline mode of communication to evade digital traces", sources told Republic TV. 
     
  • Security personnel are conducting a search operation in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri district of Jammu, where two Army vehicles were ambushed by heavily armed terrorists yesterday.

Poonch Terror Attack: What Happened at 3:45 PM?  

On Thursday, at around 3.45 pm, the two army vehicles carrying personnel to the site of a cordon-and-search operation came under attack at a blind curve at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz under the jurisdiction of the Surankote police station. Four army jawans were martyred while 3 others were left wounded. The terrorists, believed to be three to four in number, initially took position on hilltops and chose a blind curve to target the army vehicles.

After the attack, they reportedly mutilated the bodies of at least two soldiers and took weapons of some of them, officials say, adding that an investigation of the site is being carried out to know the pattern and use of weapons including steel core bullets in the ambush.
