Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to Munib Memon, an accused in the 2012 Pune J M Road blast case, after the trial failed to conclude as scheduled.

Memon had sought bail citing prolonged incarceration and delays in the trial process.

A division bench led by Justice Revati Mohite Dere approved his plea, overturning a previous decision from February last year, when the court denied bail but instructed the lower court to wrap up the trial by December 2023.

The trial remained unfinished, prompting Memon to approach the high court again.

The blasts on August 1, 2012, involved four coordinated low-intensity explosions in Pune's J M Road area, injuring one person.

Bombs planted at two other locations were defused, and nine suspects were arrested. Police claim that the terror group Indian Mujahideen orchestrated the attacks.
