New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed former Delhi minister and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj as the new chief of its Delhi unit, replacing Gopal Rai. The leadership reshuffle comes after AAP’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, where the BJP secured a historic win, ending AAP’s decade-long dominance in the national capital.

Saurabh Bhardwaj to Lead AAP’s Delhi Unit

Bhardwaj will be responsible for formulating political strategies to counter the BJP-led Delhi government. Speaking after his appointment, he said, "Our first priority will be to expand the party organisation. Elections will come and go"

Delhi’s Leader of Opposition Atishi congratulated him, posting on social media, she wrote, "Many congratulations to @Saurabh_MLAgk ji on becoming the state president of Delhi."

AAP Reshuffles Leadership After Delhi Poll Debacle

The AAP Political Affairs Committee (PAC), led by Arvind Kejriwal , decided on several key appointments in a meeting held at his residence.

  • Gopal Rai has been appointed AAP’s Gujarat in-charge.
  • Pankaj Gupta will oversee AAP’s Goa unit.
  • Manish Sisodia has been given charge of Punjab.
  • Sandeep Pathak has been appointed as AAP’s Chhattisgarh in-charge.
  • Mehraj Malik, AAP MLA from Jammu and Kashmir, will head the party’s J&K unit.

Manish Sisodia on Punjab’s Development

AAP leader Manish Sisodia, now in charge of Punjab, highlighted the progress under the Bhagwant Mann government, stating:
"There has been a lot of development in Punjab since we came to power… We will continue working for the people’s welfare and ensure every AAP worker feels proud to be part of the party."

AAP’s Setback in Delhi Elections

The leadership overhaul comes after AAP’s poor performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, where it lost power to the BJP. The BJP, which had been out of power in Delhi for 27 years, made a strong comeback, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP’s seat count dropped sharply from 62 to 22.
