New Delhi: Rekha Gupta, the newly-elected Chief Minister of Delhi has tabled the Budget 2025-26 of Rs 1 lakh crore, for the national capital. The Delhi CM has said that this is the “highest and most historic budget till date”.

Delhi Budget 2025 of Rs 1 Lakh Crore Tabled by CM Rekha Gupta

Rekha Gupta, who had been elected as the Delhi Chief Minister in February this year, has presented the Bhartiya Janata Party's first budget in 26 years. While tabling the budget, the Delhi CM said, “This time a historic budget of Rs 1 lakh crore is being tabled, which 31.5 per cent more than the last budget. This is an unprecedented and historic budget.”

This year's budget is 31.5 per cent more than last year's budget, with allocations for ten key focus areas including women safety, roads, electricity, water and infrastructure development.

Delhi Budget 2025: Key Highlights

  • Financial Support for Women: The Delhi government has allocated Rs 5,100 crore to provide a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to eligible women.
  • Boosting Transportation and Connectivity: To improve transportation and connectivity across Delhi-NCR, Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside in the FY26 Budget.
  • Enhanced Women Safety: As part of efforts to increase women’s safety, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the installation of 50,000 CCTV cameras across the city.
  • Slum Clusters' Development: The government has committed Rs 696 crore for the development and upliftment of slum areas in the city.
  • Healthcare under PM Jan Arogya Yojna: A sum of Rs 2,144 crore has been allocated to support the PM Jan Arogya Yojana, aiming to improve healthcare accessibility for residents.
  • Focus on Capital Expenditure: In a bid to enhance public infrastructure, the Delhi government has doubled its capital expenditure to Rs 28,000 crore, signaling an end to past issues of 'corruption' and 'inefficiency.'
  • Expansion of Atal Canteens: The Delhi government has allocated Rs 100 crore in the FY26 Budget to establish 100 new Atal Canteens across the city to provide affordable meals.
  • Focus on Clean Water and Sanitation: A significant allocation of Rs 9,000 crore has been made to improve clean drinking water supply and sanitation services in Delhi.
  • Creating an Investment-Friendly Environment: The government plans to transform Delhi into a hub for investment and innovation, making it more attractive for businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Introduction of a New Industrial Policy: To further boost the city's industrial growth, the Delhi government will unveil a new industrial policy designed to attract more industries and foster growth.
  • Formation of a Traders' Welfare Board: In a move to support local businesses, the government has announced the formation of a "Traders' Welfare Board" and plans to host a ‘Global Investment Summit’ every two years.
  • Yamuna Cleaning and Upgradation of STPs: The budget allocates Rs 500 crore for Yamuna cleaning, and the repair and upgrade of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), and Rs 250 crore will be used to replace outdated sewer lines across the city. 
  • Major Investment in Healthcare: The Delhi government has allocated Rs 6,874 crore to strengthen the health sector, which includes plans to establish new health and wellness centres and expand the 'Ayushman Arogya Mandir' initiative.
  • CM Shri Schools: The government will open new 'CM Shri Schools' across Delhi with a budget allocation of Rs 100 crore to enhance educational opportunities.
  • Free Laptops for Class X Graduates: In a bid to support students, the Delhi government has announced that 1,200 Class X graduates will receive free laptops, with Rs 750 crore set aside for this initiative in the FY26 Budget.
  • International Film Festival: The Delhi government plans to host an 'International Film Festival' and has allocated Rs 30 crore in the FY26 Budget to support this cultural initiative.
  • Support for Expecting Mothers: The Delhi government has allocated Rs 210 crore to provide nutritional kits and a Rs 21,000 allowance to expectant mothers.
  • Expansion of Cow Shelters: New gaushalas (cow shelters) will be established, with modern facilities planned for the Ghummanhera area in Delhi, at a cost of Rs 40 crore.
  • Boost for the Transport Sector: The government has set aside Rs 12,952 crore for the development and improvement of the transport sector in Delhi.
  • Free Bus Rides for Women: To tackle corruption, the Delhi government will issue special cards for women to avail free bus rides, replacing the pink tickets previously used.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades for Power Lines: Rs 100 crore has been allocated for a pilot project focused on removing overhead electrical lines and relocating high-tension power lines.
  • Environmental Initiatives: The Delhi government has earmarked Rs 300 crore to combat pollution in the city, with an additional Rs 506 crore allocated to the environment and forest department.
  • Support for Municipal Corporation of Delhi: Rs 6,897 crore has been allocated to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, as announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in her FY26 Budget speech.
  • New Jail Facility: A new jail will be established on the outskirts of Delhi to ease congestion in Tihar Jail, as part of the FY26 Budget plans.
  • Vision for a Self-Reliant Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the budget outlines a clear roadmap for making Delhi a self-reliant city.
