Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau testified on Wednesday before the country's foreign interference inquiry, revealing that he did not provide India with tangible proof regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. Trudeau acknowledged that Canada only shared intelligence, not definitive evidence, before publicly accusing India of involvement in Nijjar's death.

This admission comes amid escalating tensions between Canada and India following Ottawa's accusations against New Delhi for allegedly "promoting criminal activity" on its territory. During the testimony, Trudeau reiterated his assertion that there is "credible evidence" linking Indian agents to Nijjar's murder, a claim that has further strained diplomatic relations.

Trudeau also identified gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as a key figure in the case, referencing earlier statements from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that indicated his involvement in Nijjar's killing. In a press briefing earlier this week, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brigitte Gauvin suggested that Bishnoi was connected to agents of the Indian government who were allegedly targeting members of the pro-Khalistani movement in Canada.

The diplomatic standoff intensified after Canada designated Indian diplomats in Ottawa as "persons of interest" in the investigation of Nijjar's killing, which occurred last September. This move has heightened tensions between the two countries, prompting concerns about the implications for bilateral relations and security.
