BREAKING: No Relief for Brij Bhushan, HC to Hear Plea Against Sexual Harassment Case on Sept 26
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan's plea to quash the trial court's proceedings in a sexual court case against him after the charges were framed.
The ex-WFI chief and former BJP leader, Singh approached the Delhi HC seeking a quashing of the sexual harassment case lodged against him, by six women wrestlers.
A bench of court Justice Neena Bansalorally remarked, “There can't be an omnibus order on everything. If you wanted to quash the order on charge, you could have come. Once the trial has started, this is nothing but an oblique way.”
The former BJP MP challenged the FIR, the chargesheet, and the trial court's order about the framing of charges in the case against him. His petition sought to contest the legal proceedings against him in connection with the complaints filed by several women wrestlers.
Singh contended that the investigation was done in a biased manner as only the version of the victims, who were interested in taking revenge against him, was considered and the charge sheet was filed before the trial court without taking care of the falsehood of allegation.
The former WFI chief claimed that he had been falsely implicated in this case and no offence as alleged by the prosecution had been committed by him.
On May 21, the trial court had framed charges of sexual harassment, intimidation and outraging the modesty of women.
The court had also framed the charge of criminal intimidation against co-accused and former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in the case.
The Delhi Police filed an FIR against Singh after the intervention of the Supreme Court in May 2023.
