The CBI has arrested a general manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and three others, including a general manager of a private company, in connection with alleged bribery of Rs 15 lakh, officials said on Monday.
Ramprit Paswan, the accused general manager of the NHAI, had allegedly sought the bribe of Rs 15 lakh for "extending undue favours in processing and passing of the bills related to the contracts/works of the NHAI", the CBI said in a statement.
The Centre on Monday notified a 24-per cent hike in the salaries of members of Parliament with effect from April 1, 2023 on the basis of the Cost Inflation Index.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, also increased the daily allowances for sitting members and pension and additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years for former members.
A member of Parliament will now get Rs 1.24 lakh per month as salary as against Rs 1 lakh per month they received earlier.
The daily allowance too has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500, the notification said.
The pension for former members of Parliament has been increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month.
The additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month.
The proposed caste-based survey will be conducted in Jharkhand in the next financial year, a minister said in the state Assembly on Monday.
He said the Personnel department has already been made a nodal agency to hold the task.
"The government is serious about holding the caste-based survey in the state. A decision in this regard has already been taken in February last year. A school bus carrying students from remote villages to a private school in Poonch here overturned on Monday morning, leaving over a dozen children injured, three of them critically, police said.
