A 23-year-old woman has suffered injuries after jumping from a moving train here when a man allegedly attempted to rape her in the coach, Government Railway Police said on Monday.

The victim, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital here, in a statement to police on Sunday, said the incident happened on March 22 evening when she was travelling alone in the ladies coach of the MMTS (Multi Modal Transport Service) train for Medchal from Secunderabad railway station.

Delhi High Court Judge Cash Scandal Latest News: Supreme court collegium recommends repatriation of justice yashwant varma to allahabad high court.

The CBI has arrested a general manager of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and three others, including a general manager of a private company, in connection with alleged bribery of Rs 15 lakh, officials said on Monday.

Ramprit Paswan, the accused general manager of the NHAI, had allegedly sought the bribe of Rs 15 lakh for "extending undue favours in processing and passing of the bills related to the contracts/works of the NHAI", the CBI said in a statement.

The Centre on Monday notified a 24-per cent hike in the salaries of members of Parliament with effect from April 1, 2023 on the basis of the Cost Inflation Index.

The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, also increased the daily allowances for sitting members and pension and additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years for former members.

A member of Parliament will now get Rs 1.24 lakh per month as salary as against Rs 1 lakh per month they received earlier.

The daily allowance too has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500, the notification said.

The pension for former members of Parliament has been increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month.

The additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month.

The proposed caste-based survey will be conducted in Jharkhand in the next financial year, a minister said in the state Assembly on Monday.

He said the Personnel department has already been made a nodal agency to hold the task.

"The government is serious about holding the caste-based survey in the state. A decision in this regard has already been taken in February last year. We will make all our efforts to conduct the survey during the next financial year," Transport, Revenue and Land Reforms department minister Deepak Birua said replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Pradip Yadav in the assembly.

The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday informed the state assembly that efforts were underway to fill vacancies for doctors across the state by October and ramp up healthcare services.

The government was responding to concerns raised by BJP MLA Riti Pathak about the shortage of doctors in Sidhi district.

Pathak stated that the Sidhi district hospital had just 12 expert doctors instead of 37, and the posts of 6 medical officers were lying vacant.

She further questioned the government about measures taken to improve health service in the district, home to a large chunk of tribal population.

A plea in the Supreme Court has sought a direction to Delhi Police to lodge an FIR over the alleged discovery of semi-burnt stash of cash from the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma. The plea also challenges the 1991 judgement in the K Veeraswami case in which the top court ruled that no criminal proceedings could be initiated against a judge of the high court or the top court without the prior nod of the Chief Justice of India.

A section of lawyers in the Sambhal district observed a one-day pen-down strike on Monday to protest the arrest of Zafar Ali, president of the Jama Masjid Management Committee.

According to police, Ali, a "senior lawyer", was arrested on Sunday in connection with the violence that took place on November 24 last year. However, a section of lawyers alleged that his arrest was an attempt to prevent him from testifying before a judicial commission investigating the incident.

A school bus carrying students from remote villages to a private school in Poonch here overturned on Monday morning, leaving over a dozen children injured, three of them critically, police said.

Rajesh Pal, the Station House Officer of Poonch Police Station, said, "The incident occurred on Bajna Road when a school bus …, carrying more than two dozen students, lost control near Bajna village and overturned on a roadside." According to police, around 14 children sustained injuries. They were rushed to a Primary Health Centre in Poonch.

Maharashtra Minister Sanjay Shirsat on Monday said that the state government aims to accommodate 25,000 students in new hostels to be set up by the social justice department.

Speaking in the legislative council, the state minister for social justice said the department plans to open around 125 hostels in different parts of the state, and a provision of Rs 1,500 crore has been allocated for this.

Two members of Meitei radical outfit Arambai Tenggol were arrested in connection with the clash with UNLF (Pambei) militants in Manipur, police said on Monday.

Maharashtra minister Yogesh Kadam on Monday said the location of stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who allegedly made defamatory remarks against Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, was being traced and strict action will be taken in the matter as per the law.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has forecast heat waves in 29 mandals across the state on Monday.

Similarly, the agency has forecast severe heat waves in Chinturu and Kunavaram mandals of Alluri Seetharamaraju district of the southern state.

Out of the 29 mandals, three mandals each in Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Eluru and Alluri Seetharamaraju districts are expected to suffer heat waves, followed by four in Srikakulam district, seven in Parvathipuram Manyam district and one in NTR District.

A special court in Maharashtra's Thane district has sentenced a man to three years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

Special judge Ruby U Malvankar convicted the accused, Amarnath Bechu Yadav, of charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code.

The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000.

The Mumbai police on Monday registered an FIR against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a show, officials said.

The police also registered a case against nearly 40 Shiv Sena workers for allegedly vandalising the Habitat Studio in Mumbai's Khar area, where Kamra's show with "gaddar" (traitor) jibe at Shinde was filmed, and a hotel where the studio is located, they said.
