Suraj Revanna, Rape Accused Prajwal Revanna's Brother, Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police on Sunday morning arrested Janata Dal (Secular) MLC Suraj Revanna, brother of rape-accused former MP Prajwal Revanna, in connection with a sexual assault case, said officials. 

He was taken to Hassan Institute of Medical Science (HIMS) for medical examination. Subsequently, the sexual assault case was transferred to CID for further probe with immediate effect. “The case file should be handed over to CID for further investigation,” the notice reads. 

The arrest came after the police registered a case against the JD(S) MLC at Holenarasipura rural police station for allegedly sodomising a party worker a few days ago, police said. 

JD(S) worker Chethan KS (27) had complained to the police that Suraj Revanna, the eldest son of Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna, sodomised him at his Ghannikada farmhouse in Holenarasipura Taluk on June 16.

Acting on the complaint, the Holenarasipura police registered a case against the JD(S) MLC under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation) late on Saturday evening.

Suraj Revanna Denies Charges 

Suraj Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda and the nephew of Union Minister and JD(S) President HD Kumaraswamy, vehemently denied charges of sexual assault against him.

He alleged that Chethan, the complainant, filed a false and baseless complaint to extort Rs 5 crore from him. On Friday, police registered a case of extortion against Chethan on a complaint by Suraj Revanna's close aide Shivakumar.

Shivakumar claimed that Chethan was trying to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to lodge a false case of sexual assault against him. It was said that Chethan demanded Rs 5 crore from Suraj Revanna and later it was reduced to Rs 2 crore.
