New Delhi: Uddhav Thackeray, former Maharashtra Chief Minister has come out in support of controversial comedian Kunal Kamra over his defamatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Thackeray said, “Kunal Kamra has not said anything wrong.”
“What should we call a traitor? A traitor is a traitor nothing wrong was said by Kunal Kamra,” the Shiv Sena leader added.
The controversy erupted after a video from Kunal Kamra’s recent performance at The Habitat Comedy Studio went viral. During his set, the comedian mocked Maharashtra’s Deputy CM, Eknath Shinde, referring to him as a “Gaddar” (traitor), a term linked to Shinde’s role in the 2022 Shiv Sena rebellion that led to the party's split into factions, as reported by PTI.
Kamra performed an altered version of a famous song from the Bollywood film Dil To Pagal Hai, singing, "Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye."
