A day after Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma came under intense scrutiny following the discovery of unaccounted cash at his residence, a new video has surfaced that shows piles of burned money at his house. The startling footage, which is said to have been recorded during the fire incident that occurred on the night of March 14, coinciding with the Holi weekend, captures law enforcement officers wading through large stacks of cash. The video has added to the growing controversy surrounding the judge’s involvement in the case.
The video surfaced following the release of a report by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, which was made public by the Supreme Court of India. The 25-page report, containing documents and photographs related to the cash recovery case involving Justice Yashwant Varma, has been published on the Supreme Court's official website.
The video appears to firmly confirm that substantial amounts of cash were indeed found at the residence of the sitting High Court judge. It directly contradicts the inconsistent and shifting narratives put forth, particularly by the fire department, regarding the discovery of large sums of cash at the judge's home. These contradictory accounts have only added confusion to the situation.
The video also casts doubt on the Supreme Court Collegium's decision to transfer the judge rather than taking a stronger stance. After the incident was revealed, the Collegium moved the judge to his home court at the Allahabad High Court, which expressed its objection, calling it an inappropriate action and stating they weren’t a "dumping ground."
Moreover, the video prompts serious questions about the origin of the cash. Was it a favor? These issues fuel suspicions about the integrity of several judgments handled by Justice Yashwant Varma. Additionally, the prolonged silence on the matter raises further concerns about the lack of accountability.
"Attempt to overlook stink of rotten corruption has put the soul of justice on trial in this country", says Arnab in fiery take on Delhi judge cash video as he stresses on the next level reforms in the judiciary.
Senior lawyer Satish Maneshinde stated that Justice Yashwant Varma is fully responsible for everything that happened in his house. Calling it an open-and-shut case, Maneshinde dismissed Justice Verma’s defense as “bogus.”
Oudh Bar Association expressed concerns over the changing version of Supreme Court regarding the recovery of the cash.
