New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded its Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora for the upcoming assembly by-poll. This move by AAP has sparked speculation about the possibility of party leader Arvind Kejriwal replacing Arora in the Upper House after the supremo's embarrassing defeat in the recent Delhi assembly elections.
The party in a post on Wednesday announced Arora will contest the upcoming by-election in Ludhiana West, a seat that became vacant after the tragic death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Gogi last month due to a gunshot injury while cleaning his pistol.

The date for the bypoll has yet to be confirmed.

Arora is an industrialist from Ludhiana and has represented the Rajya Sabha since 2022.

Following the announcement, Arora expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for selecting him to contest the by-election, stating, "Humbled and grateful to the leadership Aam Aadmi Party for reposing faith in me to contest the Ludhiana West bye-elections. As someone deeply connected to my hometown, I look forward to serving my people with dedication and sincerity," he said.
Major Setback for Kejriwal in Delhi Polls
The Bharatiya Janata Party's Parvesh Verma defeated Arvind Kejriwal Delhi in the recent Delhi Polls.
Parvesh Sahib Singh, also known as Parvesh Verma, of the BJP , defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat by a margin of over 4,000 votes, according to the poll body.
The Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power in Delhi after 27 years.
Following this, Rekha Gupta took oath as the new Delhi Chief Minister.
Congratulating BJP leader Rekha Gupta - the saffron party's choice for the Chief Minister of Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday, said he hoped that Gupta would fulfil all promises made by the party during the Delhi Assembly Elections.
Taking to X, Kejriwal posted a tweet in Hindi that read, "Many congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. I hope that she will fulfil all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support her in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi."
