While the duo had had a somewhat similar rise in their political careers, Jignesh Mevani and Alpesh Thakor went their separate ways when Alpesh defected to BJP a few months back.
However, today the young scheduled caste leader and MLA from Vadgam, Jignesh Mevani, has extended 'friendly advice' to Alpesh Thakor via Twitter. He's said in his tweet that he is not surprised that Alpesh Thakor lost in the bypolls from Radhanpur. He claimed that it was also because voters would always choose a leader who wants to work for them and not just run after their personal ambitions, insinuating that Alpesh had joined BJP only for his personal political ambitions.
For the Gujarat by-polls, I congratulate Congress' state leadership in winning 3 important seats. @AlpeshThakor_ 's loss does not come as a surprise to me. Citizens do not support leaders who value personal gains more than voters. 4/n

He's also said that he 'urged' Alpesh Thakor to leave the 'communal' BJP, to be 'a fighter on the ground' and 'be slapped with wrong cases (against him)', insinuating that if Alpesh leaves the BJP (which he advises him to) , he will get several cases filed against him.
As his well-wisher, I would urge @AlpeshThakor_ to leave the greed of political power. To resign from a communal BJP. To be a fighter on the ground with the preparation of going to jail and getting slapped with wrong cases. 5/n

In the past, all three leaders - Jignesh, Alpesh and Hardik Patel have protested against the BJP-led state government and all three had also been at the epicenter of Gujarat assembly elections of 2017 and had somewhat become the face of the opposition.

Condemning the BJP government
Apart from subtly taking a dig at Alpesh, Jignesh also took to Twitter to condemn the BJP government and claimed that the Congress party was able to win in the bypolls in three very strategically important assembly seats because people have lost faith in BJP. That, 'achhe din' (a slogan that was popularised in 2014 general elections by Narendra Modi) was only a marketing scheme and that there are an economic slowdown and several problems that plague the country but BJP has not been able to do much to deliver on their promises.
The economic slowdown and unemployment felt across board is slowly turning into an anger by the voters who are punishing the BJP's empty rhetoric of 'acchhe din'. On top of misguided policies, their ignoring of distressed social groups is hurting them - Haryana is an example. 2/n

He also claimed that Congress has performed well in Haryana. And that, in Maharashtra the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has been a very tough opposition that for BJP. He also congratulated Nitin Raut on his victory.
@INCIndia performed fantastically in Haryana and I congratulate them for that.
— Jignesh Mevani (@jigneshmevani80)
In Maharashtra, the fight given by the NCP in particular shows the way for opposition. It says that if opposition unites, in the face of all threats by BJP, the voters will rally behind them. 3/n
