Vadodara: A 20-year-old law student Rakshit Chaurasiya rammed his car into four people in Gujarat's Vadodara, killing a woman and leaving others seriously injured. Shocking bystander videos from the crash site show the heavily drunk driver stepping out of the severely damaged car, raising his arms, and shouting "another round" as bystanders tried to restrain him while the injured lay scattered on the ground.
Moments later, he began chanting "Om Namah Shivay," while his co-passenger, his friend Meet Chauhan who had already exited the vehicle, fled in the opposite direction, insisting he had no part in the incident.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage reveals the car speeding before ploughing into two scooters, knocking down riders and dragging them before finally coming to a halt. Police suspect the incident was a case of drunk driving and have initiated medical tests to confirm if Chaurasiya was under the influence of alcohol. While he holds a valid driving licence, reckless speeding is believed to be a key factor in the crash.
The horrific accident took place around 12:30 am near Muktanand Crossroads in Vadodara’s Karelibaug area. Speaking to Republic World, Panna Momaya, DCP of Zone 4, Vadodara, gave the details of the incident. He said, "The car was coming from Sangam to Muktanad Circle at a dangerously high speed. One woman died instantly, and four others were injured in the crash. Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student from MSU, was driving Meet Praanshu Chauhan’s car when the accident happened. The investigation is ongoing, but we are specifically looking into the over-speeding angle."
Meanwhile, Chaurasiya defended himself, claiming he was on his way home after visiting a friend when the accident occurred. He stated, “The airbag deployed suddenly, blocking my vision, and I couldn’t see anything ahead.”
Denying any involvement with alcohol, Chaurasiya argued that the crash happened when multiple scooters unexpectedly appeared in front of his vehicle. He also blamed the car’s automatic transmission, saying it made it difficult to control in such a situation. I had no idea someone had died or that there were injuries until my arrest. Once I’m released, I will meet the families of the victims,” he added.
