Chandigarh University Shocker: 21-Year-Old Boxing Champion Dies In Ring After Heart Attack

Mohali: A shocking incident surfaced in a boxing ring at Chandigarh University in Mohali, when 21-year-old boxing champion Mohit Sharma collapsed after suffering a heart attack during a championship match. The promising young athlete, who had travelled from Jaipur to participate in the event, reportedly collapsed in the ring while competing in the 85kg category. The medical teams rushed to Mohit Sharma's aid, providing immediate assistance, but unfortunately, they were unable to revive him. 

The young boxer was then immediately rushed to a district hospital in Mohali, where he was declared dead by doctors. The incident left the sports community in shock and mourning as the talented young athlete's sudden passing away. His body has been sent for postmortem. 

As per reports, Mohit was a dedicated sportsperson who had won several national and state-level boxing titles. His fellow athletes, coaches, and sports officials expressed their grief and condolences over his passing. 

Calls For Stricter Health Screenings

Mohit Sharma's family was left in a void after his sudden death. They appealed to sports organisations to implement stricter health screenings for players. The incident has raised concerns about the importance of regular health check-ups for athletes, particularly in high-intensity sports like boxing.

Recent Incidents of Sudden Heart Attacks

The death of the promising boxer is not an isolated one, as several recent cases of sudden heart attacks have surfaced on social media. In December 2022, a 25-year-old footballer in the UK died after suffering a cardiac arrest during a match. Similarly, in January 2023, a 30-year-old athlete in the US died after collapsing during a marathon. 

Meanwhile, the recent incident has stressed the need for increased awareness and vigilance regarding heart health in sports. 

The concerned authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with initial reports suggesting that an undetected heart condition may have led to Mohit's death.
