The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry; check latest weather update.
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu capital and its adjoining areas have been witnessing incessant rainfall for the past few days resulting in a flood-like situation; as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert for rain has been issued in several districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, including the capital city of the former, Chennai.

As mentioned earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert predicting heavy rain in several districts of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu today, October 19. The orange alert has been issued for the following districts -

- Kallakkurihi
- Kancheepuram
- Ranipettai
- Vellore
- Thiruvannamalai
- Thanjavur
- Nagapattinam
- Krishnagiri
- Tiruppattur

- Dharmapuri
- Cuddalore
- Madurai
- Pudukottai
- Ramanathapuram
- Kanyakumari
- Sivagangai
Chennai Rains: Flights Likely to be Delayed, Traffic May Be Hit
Most parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai have been witnessing heavy rain for the past few days, resulting in a flood-like situation in the state; the rains have resulted in waterlogged streets, disrupting the Chennai traffic. A warning has also been issued by the airlines for potential flight delays and cancellations due to the downpour.
IMD Weather Update
According to the latest IMD Weather Bulletin, “Scattered to Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka; Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over rest of the region” until October 25.”
