Nadia: Following BJP's 12-hour 'Bangla Bandh' strike in West Bengal, tensions flared as workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) clashed in Nadia district.

A video shared by news agency PTI showed workers of both parties hitting each other with flag sticks.

Meanwhile, another instance of violence was reported in West Bengal where a BJP leader's car was attacked and several rounds of bullets were fired.

BJP leader Priyangu Pandey was attacked while he was visiting another leader's residence. He said, "Today I was going to our leader Arjun Singh's residence...We moved some distance and the road was blocked by a jetting machine from Bhatpara Municipality. The moment our car stopped, around 50-60 people targeted the vehicle. 7 to 8 bombs were thrown at my vehicle and then 6-7 round firing was done...This is a joint conspiracy of TMC and the Police...They planned my murder...The police supported and gave information...My security was withdrawn and then this incident happened..."

This comes as several BJP leaders including Locket Chatterjee and Roopa Ganguly were detained by the Kolkata police.

"People from TMC are saying that people are not following the bandh while buses are going empty. It means that people are following the bandh call. Did you see me forcing anyone to follow the bandh? Police are behaving so badly these days, don't they feel ashamed?," said Roopa Ganguly.

The strike proposed by the saffron party comes a day after the 'Nabbana' protest by student outfits turned violent after cops brutally imposed a lathi charge, and fired water cannons on demonstrators.

The protesters were attempting to reach ‘Nabanna’ to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged rape-murder of a doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here earlier this month.

Over 200 people were arrested in connection with the rally.

Clashes were reported at MG Road, Hastings Road and areas near the Princep Ghat alongside Santragachi and Howrah Maidan in which some protesters as well as 29 police personnel were injured.
