Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a major update on the construction of the new Assam Assembly and MLA complex in Dibrugarh on Friday. Offering a sneak peek into the design, the Chief Minister revealed that work on the new Assam Assembly Complex is scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.

He also announced that the first Assembly session in the city is scheduled for September 2027.

Major Developments in Dibrugarh

With this project, Dibrugarh will become the second city in Assam, after Guwahati, to host a state Assembly complex.

In his post, Sarma outlined his vision to reclaim Dibrugarh’s lost glory and transform it into a modern second capital of Assam.

During an inspection, Sarma, along with Dibrugarh MLA and minister Prasanta Phukan, announced that the tender process is set to begin in May, with construction expected to start by August.

Sharing a photo of the proposed Assam Legislative Assembly Complex, he wrote: “This is how the Assam Legislative Assembly Complex in Dibrugarh will look once completed in 2027.”

The Assembly building will have a seating capacity for 160 MLAs, while a nearby circuit house will feature 75 rooms for government officials. Reports indicate that each residential unit will span 800 to 1,000 square feet, comprising a drawing room, bedroom, and kitchen.

Additionally, several directorate offices are being planned to enhance the city’s administrative significance. The entire project is set for completion by the end of 2027.

He directed officials to ensure the completion of flood mitigation projects within a specified timeline.
