New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticized the opposition’s alleged claim that 'Muslims are in danger,' while highlighting Uttar Pradesh's commitment to ensuring the safety of people of all faiths.
The comments by the UP CM were made in a podcast on Wednesday with ANI, where HE dismissed claims by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi that “Muslims are in danger,” calling it a ploy to continue securing the vote bank support.
"Muslims are not at risk; it’s their vote bank politics that’s under threat. The moment Indian Muslims recognize their roots, these leaders will have no choice but to leave. Indian Muslims must realize their safety is tied to the security of Hindus and Hindu traditions. Before 1947, Pakistan and Bangladesh were part of India—how can we ignore that reality? Don’t we have the Hinglaj Mata temple in Pakistan and the Dhakeshwari Mata temple in Bangladesh?" he said.
Highlighting the communal harmony of communities in Uttar Pradesh, Yogi asserted that the state stands as a beacon of safety for minorities. Muslims are the safest in Uttar Pradesh...If Hindus are safe, then Muslims are also safe here. A Muslim family living among 100 Hindu families is safe. It has the freedom to do all its religious deeds. But let alone one, even if 50 Hindu families live among 100 Muslim families, can they be safe? No. Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan are examples before you. If someone is being hit, we should be careful before we get hit..."
Recalling the 2017 riots, the Chief Minister also pointed towards the transformation in Uttar Pradesh since he assumed office in 2017.
"In Uttar Pradesh, Muslims are the safest. If Hindus are safe, then they are also safe. If there were riots here in UP before 2017, if Hindu shops were burning, Muslim shops were also burning. After 2017, the riots stopped. Now, if Hindus are safe, Muslims are also safe..."
CM Yogi also took a swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a "namuna" whose actions inadvertently bolster the BJP. He criticised Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan, calling it a "Bharat Todo Abhiyan".
"...Bharat ki rajneeti mein BJP ke liye Rahul Gandhi jaise kuch namune zaroor rehne chahiye...His 'Bharat Jodo' is a part of 'Bharat Todo Abhiyan'. When he goes to the South, he criticises the North. When he goes to the North, he criticises the South. When he goes outside India, he will criticize India. The country has understood his conduct..." CM Yogi told ANI.
The Chief Minister further accused the Congress of perpetuating divisive issues for political mileage. "Why did the Congress not abolish three-talaq? Why did the Congress not promote Kumbh with so much pride and divinity? Why did Congress fail to provide world-class infrastructure in the country?" he asked.
