Patiala: A senior army officer and his son were allegedly beaten by a Patiala policeman. The incident reportedly occurred on the intervening night of March 13 and 14, over a car parking dispute. CCTV footage has also been recovered from the scene.
The Patiala Police registered an FIR on Saturday and launched an investigation into an alleged assault involving Colonel Pushpinder Bath, an Indian Army officer, and his son. The incident reportedly occurred on the intervening night of March 13 and 14, over a car parking dispute.
Colonel Bath, currently posted at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi, was allegedly assaulted by individuals believed to be police personnel. The FIR, however, has been filed against unidentified persons. Family members of Colonel Bath have accused Punjab Police inspectors of being involved in the altercation.
According to reports, the Colonel and his son were at a dhaba near Government Rajindra Hospital when the incident happened. The family claims that police officers, allegedly in civilian attire, demanded that the Colonel move his car to make way for theirs. When Colonel Bath objected to their tone, the situation escalated, leading to a physical altercation. Both the colonel and his son were reportedly injured in the scuffle.
The FIR was reportedly registered only after intervention by senior Army officers. Patiala SSP Dr. Nanak Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway, based on the statement of a dhaba owner who witnessed the incident. The police have yet to name any officers as accused in the case.
