New Delhi: Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, infamous for his Pakistan -favouring controversial remarks, attended the Iftar party hosted at the Pakistan High Commission on Thursday, despite India having suspended its diplomatic ties with Islamabad.

The Iftar dinner was organised to mark Pakistan's National Day, celebrated on March 23.

However, Mani Shankar Aiyar’s visit to the Pakistan High Commission sparked backlash on social media, with many claiming it was his favorite destination.

A user on X, Harshit Yadav, criticised Mani Shankar Aiyar for attending the Iftar party at Pakistan’s High Commission, calling it his “second home.”

Another user, Sanmoy Basu, wrote, “Reason why Congress will never come to power in India even with foreign intervention and money (which will be dismantled just like red terror). For Congress to make meaningful contributions to Bharat, the party needs to split away from the family and its minions, led by a true Indian invested in Bharat and not in Ummah.”

A user named Dolli mocked the Congress leader, saying, “Chla Gaya Sasural,” (departed to his ‘in-laws’) while another commented, “Asli Ristedar Hain ye” (Pakistanis are Mani Shankar Aiyar’s real relatives).

One more user criticised Mani Shankar Aiyar’s action and took a dig at the Congress party by calling it the “Muslim Appeasement Party.”

As reactions continued pouring, a user named Aditya Kr Das remarked, “Congress Pak lover unfolds.”

Another user wrote, “A Congress leader attending Pakistan Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Lahore Resolution in 1940, demanding a separate nation for Muslims in the Indian subcontinent. Utterly disgraceful and traitorous.”

Yet another user slammed Mani Shankar Aiyar, saying he was born in the wrong country.

Mani Shankar Aiyar an ‘All weather Disaster’ Man for Congress

Mani Shankar Aiyar has repeatedly embarrassed the Grand Old Party with controversial remarks, whether on India-Pakistan relations, seeking Pakistan's help to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi , or making objectionable statements about the Prime Minister.

The Congress leader once referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a ‘neech aadmi’ while campaigning for the Gujarat elections in 2019. Despite receiving heavy backlash on social media, he repeated the remark days later, insisting there was nothing wrong with what he had said.

In 2017, Mani Shankar Aiyar embarrassed India during a debate on a Pakistani news channel by seeking Islamabad’s help to defeat PM Modi. When asked what should be done to resolve the stalemate in India-Pakistan relations, Aiyar stated that the first and foremost step would be to remove PM Modi, as only then could talks between the two nations progress.

Earlier, in 2014, Mani Shankar Aiyar mocked PM Modi, claiming that a tea-seller could never become the Prime Minister of India.
