Crackdown on Corruption: 5 MP Govt Officials Embezzled Rs 7 Crore in Jabalpur, Booked

Five state government employees have been booked for allegedly embezzling nearly Rs 7 crore in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Friday.

Jabalpur: Five state government employees have been booked for allegedly embezzling nearly Rs 7 crore in Madhya Pradesh, police said on Friday. 

The accused have been identified as Sandeep Sharma, Seema Amit Tiwari, Manoj Barhaiya, Priya and Anoop Kumar Bhourya. 

According to officials, all five accused staffers were putting up fictitious claims under post-retirement benefit schemes. 

Govt Employees Commit Fraud of Nearly Rs 7 Crore

Fraud has amounted up to Rs 7 crore. All have been found guilty of misusing their position to withdraw the money from the exchequer, an official statement said. 

A case has been registered against accused under under sections 316 (5) (criminal breach of trust), 319 (2) (cheating by personation), 318(4)(cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable security), 336(6)(forgery), 340(2) (forged document), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita 2023 

Efforts are underway to arrest the accused, police said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has arrested two individuals, including a government stenographer, for allegedly demanding a bribe in connection with the revocation of a GST registration suspension.

"Today a complainant visited the office of Anti-Corruption Branch, Delhi and introduced himself as a shopkeeper who runs a business of electronic goods. He further informed that his GST registration was suspended by the concerned GSTO on the frivolous ground," police said.

The complainant has already submitted the requisite documents and fine to the department. Thereafter, on several occasions, the complainant met the concerned GSTO and his stenographer Mohit Yadav with a request to revoke the suspension of the GST registration.
