Thiruvananthapuram: In a success for anti-narcotic agencies, drugs worth Rs 1.9 crore have been seized between March 5 and 12, an official statement said on Friday.
Lauding anti-narcotic agencies for their efforts, Kerala Excise Minister MB Rajesh said that Operation Clean Slate has been extended by another week.
The operation was earlier scheduled to conclude on March 12.
The Kerala government had launched a special drive to combat drug trafficking amid a surge in drug-related cases. The operation is being spearheaded by the state government’s Excise department.
The excise department conducted 3,568 raids between March 5 and 12, including 50 joint inspections with the police, forest, and motor vehicle departments.
A total of 554 drug-related cases were registered during this period, officials said.
During the operation, authorities confiscated a variety of substances, including 64.46 grams of MDMA, 25.84 grams of methamphetamine, 39.56 grams of heroin, 14.5 grams of brown sugar, 12.82 grams of nitrazepam tablets, 113.63 kilograms of cannabis, 14.8 kilograms of ganja-infused chocolates, 96.8 grams of cannabis-laced bhang, 29.7 grams of hashish oil, and 20 grams of charas.
In addition, 10,430 liters of spirit, 931.64 liters of illicit foreign liquor, 3,048 liters of wash, 82 liters of liquor, and 289.66 kilograms of tobacco products were also seized during the crackdown.
