Aizawl: In a major success for anti-narcotics agencies, three peddlers were arrested after heroin worth Rs 1.13 crore was seized from their possession near the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district.
According to officials, Assam Rifles personnel set up a mobile check post at a border crossing in Zokhawthar village.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 12 packets of heroin, totaling 151.7 grams, hidden inside a pillow cover, officials said.
The three arrested individuals, along with the drugs and vehicle, were handed over to the state excise and narcotics department in Champhai for further investigation and legal action.

Earlier, on March 14, Mizoram police in Zokhawthar village, near the India-Myanmar border, confiscated 4.722 kilograms of heroin, believed to be the largest seizure in the state this year.
Initially, six individuals, including a minor, were arrested for alleged involvement in trafficking the drugs.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two more individuals, including a prominent businessman and a franchisee of a multinational retail company, in Aizawl on March 15 for their alleged role in the heroin trafficking.
