Deep Depression Over Bengal: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert For UP, MP and These States

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Odisha , Chhattisgarh , Bihar , Jharkhand , and parts of Madhya Pradesh due to anticipated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. A Yellow alert has also been issued for nine other states, including West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, West Uttar Pradesh, and several northeastern regions like Manipur , Mizoram , Tripura, Nagaland , and Meghalaya . Parts of Madhya Pradesh are also under a Yellow alert.
The heavy rain is being driven by a deep depression over West Bengal, which is slowly moving northwest. As it shifts inland, it is expected to bring intense rainfall, particularly affecting Jharkhand , Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha , and Bihar starting Monday.
Forecast for Uttar Pradesh and Haryana
In Uttar Pradesh, light to moderate rainfall is expected across most areas, with isolated heavy rainfall predicted on September 14. Haryana is also likely to experience light to moderate rainfall in some areas, with chances of heavy downpours at specific locations.
Rainfall Outlook for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
East Madhya Pradesh is forecasted to receive very heavy rainfall on September 17, while Chhattisgarh will experience isolated heavy rains from September 14 to 17. West Madhya Pradesh is also expected to face significant rainfall on September 18 and 19, further extending the impact of the weather system in central India.
The IMD has urged residents and authorities in these regions to prepare for potential flooding and disruptions.
