New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Sunday, announced that three metro stations in the Pitampura area would be given new names. The Chief Minister, during her Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra in Delhi's Haiderpur Village, declared that the government's move is a bid to reflect the local identity of the metro station that the residents would cherish.
As per the information, the proposed Uttari Pitampura station, situated in the QU block, will now be known as Uttari Pitampura‑Prashant Vihar Metro Station, which will be a nod to the nearby residential neighbourhood. The forthcoming Pitampura North station will be called Haiderpur Village Metro Station, which will honour the villagers who hosted the Yatra on Sunday, while the existing Pitampura station will be renamed Madhuban Chowk Metro Station.
CM Rekha Gupta, in her address, outlined ongoing infrastructure work that is set to ease the daily commuting for thousands of residents, which includes the widening of Max Hospital Road and the construction of an underpass is also progressing. She promised the locals smoother, safer journeys for the city’s motorists as well as the pedestrians.
On the other hand, days after the deadly car bomb ripped through a crowd on Subhash Marg near the Red Fort Metro Station, the Delhi Metro has ordered the reopening of the two gates of the metro station, which had been closed earlier. The Red Fort blast, which occurred on November 10, claimed at least 13 lives and left dozens wounded, leading the security forces to immediately close the station as a precautionary measure.

On Thursday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a statement saying the station would remain closed until security agencies gave the all‑clear. However, on Saturday, a sigh of relief arrived when two of the station’s four gates, which are gates 2 and 3, were reopened, allowing a limited flow of passengers. Later, the corporation announced that all gates were now operational, restoring full service on the Violet Line that serves as a gateway to some of Delhi’s most treasured monuments, which include the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and the vibrant lanes of Chandni Chowk.
The temporary closure of the two gates had caused noticeable disruption, especially during peak travel times and on weekends. The DMRC, following the reopening of the station, posted on X that gates 2 and 3 at Lal Qila Metro Station are now open for commuters.
