Delhi CM Rekha Gupta presented the FY26 Budget with key proposals to boost the city's infrastructure and welfare. The budget includes Rs. 28,000 crores for capital expenditure, focusing on development projects. Rs. 5,100 crores are allocated to provide Rs. 2,500 per month to eligible women under the Mahila Samman Nidhi Scheme. The budget also includes Rs. 1,000 crores for improving connectivity in Delhi-NCR, along with Rs. 696 crores for slum development and Rs. 2,144 crores for the PM Jan Arogya Yojna. Additionally, 50,000 CCTV cameras will be installed for women's safety.

The Delhi government will introduce travel cards for women to avail free bus rides, replacing the existing pink ticket system to curb corruption, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday.

Presenting the 2025-26 Budget, Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that Rs 12,952 crore has been earmarked for the transport sector to improve public transportation and urban mobility in the capital.

Allahabad HC lawyers on indefinite strike over transfer of Justice Varma

The Allahabad High Court Bar Association on Tuesday began an indefinite strike to protest against the proposed transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma to the high court here.

Leading the protesting lawyers gathered at gate number 3 of the high court, Bar Association President Anil Tiwari told reporters, "This protest is not against any court or judge but against those who have betrayed the judicial system." He added, "Our fight is against those involved in corruption and against a system that lacks transparency. For now, our demand is a reconsideration and withdrawal of the transfer order." The Bar Association had reiterated its opposition to Justice Varma's transfer on Monday and decided to go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday.

Bihar-bound liquor worth 10 lakh seized at UP border

A consignment of illegal liquor worth Rs 10 lakh that was being smuggled to Bihar via the river route has been intercepted by the police here, officials said on Tuesday.

One person has been arrested in this connection on Monday, they said.

Bairia Circle Officer Mohammad Faheem Qureshi said on Tuesday, "Based on a tip-off that liquor was being transported to Bihar through the river from Shivpur, the Dokati police set up a checkpoint 100 metres ahead of the location.

3 Naxalites killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Tuesday, police said.

The gunfight broke out at around 8 am in a forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation, a police official said.

Bodies of three Naxalites along with firearms and explosives were recovered from the spot, he said.
