The Delhi government will introduce travel cards for women to avail free bus rides, replacing the existing pink ticket system to curb corruption, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday.

Presenting the 2025-26 Budget, Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that Rs 12,952 crore has been earmarked for the transport sector to improve public transportation and urban mobility in the capital.

In a major step to improve public health and sanitation, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced that Rs. 9,000 crore will be allocated in the FY26 budget for clean drinking water and sanitation projects across the city.

In the Delhi Assembly, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta says, "The previous government failed in every aspect of development... Yamuna was unclean, road were damaged, air pollution was high. Delhi Jal Board, DTC... were facing losses. Dirty water and overflowing sewers became Delhi's identity. Being handed over such a government and running it is no less than a challenge...".

The Delhi government has earmarked Rs. 696 crores in the FY26 budget for the development of slum clusters across the city. 

CM Rekha Gupta announced a Rs. 2,144 crore allocation in the FY26 budget for the PM Jan Arogya Yojna, aimed at providing healthcare benefits to the economically disadvantaged sections of society.
 

CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that the Delhi government's FY26 budget will focus on ten key areas, including infrastructure development, roads, water, and electricity.

CM Rekha Gupta has outlined plans to improve connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region with an allocation of Rs. 1,000 crores in the FY26 Budget. The fund will be used to enhance the transportation network and streamline the city’s connectivity.

The Allahabad High Court Bar Association on Tuesday began an indefinite strike to protest against the proposed transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma to the high court here.

Leading the protesting lawyers gathered at gate number 3 of the high court, Bar Association President Anil Tiwari told reporters, "This protest is not against any court or judge but against those who have betrayed the judicial system." He added, "Our fight is against those involved in corruption and against a system that lacks transparency. For now, our demand is a reconsideration and withdrawal of the transfer order." The Bar Association had reiterated its opposition to Justice Varma's transfer on Monday and decided to go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday.

A consignment of illegal liquor worth Rs 10 lakh that was being smuggled to Bihar via the river route has been intercepted by the police here, officials said on Tuesday.

One person has been arrested in this connection on Monday, they said.

Bairia Circle Officer Mohammad Faheem Qureshi said on Tuesday, "Based on a tip-off that liquor was being transported to Bihar through the river from Shivpur, the Dokati police set up a checkpoint 100 metres ahead of the location.

Three Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Tuesday, police said.

The gunfight broke out at around 8 am in a forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation, a police official said.

Bodies of three Naxalites along with firearms and explosives were recovered from the spot, he said.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has likened comedian Kunal Kamra's jibe at him to taking "supari" (contract) to speak against someone, and said a decorum should be maintained while taking jibes, otherwise the action causes a reaction.

Freedom of speech is there, but there should be a limit, Shinde said on Monday reacting to Kamra's comments.

The 36-year-old stand-up comedian has kicked up a major political storm in Maharashtra for taking a jibe at Shinde's political career in his show.

Hours before presenting the BJP government's first budget in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid obeisance at the Prachin Hanuman temple in Connaught Place here on Tuesday along with her Cabinet colleagues and said the city will be witness to "Ram Rajya".
