Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP Leaders Detained During Bus Marshals' Protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police, on Saturday, detained Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj along with several other AAP party leaders while they were protesting over the issue of bus marshals.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who was accompanied by AAP and BJP MLAs, on Saturday went to Lt Governor VK Saxena's office to submit a note on the issue of reinstatement of bus marshals and get his approval on it. 

Earlier, the note was passed in a meeting of the cabinet. 

L-G Has Power Over Services, Transfers: CM Atishi

Speaking on the protest over the issue, CM Atishi said, "Although L-G has power over services, transfers and making jobs of bus marshals permanent, BJP 's Vijender Gupta insisted on passing the proposal in the cabinet. We called an emergency cabinet meeting at the Delhi Secretariat and passed the resolution immediately. Now, we have sent the resolution to L-G."
 

AAP Leaders Lay at BJP MLA's Feet

A high-voltage drama unfolded after counter-allegations flew between the AAP and the BJP over their resentment leading to protests, detentions and police complaints over the bus marshal issue.

In a dramatic sequence of events, Bharadwaj laid at BJP MLA Vijender Gupta's feet, requesting him to accompany AAP leaders to the LG's residence to seek Saxena's approval on the reinstatement of around 10,000 bus marshals, while the chief minister left her car and sat in the BJP leader's car.

Atishi's Appeal To BJP MLAs

BJP MLAs met Atishi over the issue of reinstatement of bus marshals and the chief minister appealed to them to join a delegation that will submit the note to the LG for his approval. 

In a video, Bharadwaj said that the cabinet unanimously passed the note. 

It was taken to the LG office by the CM, MLAs of AAP and BJP for approval of Saxena's nod. 

Over 10,000 civil defence volunteers deployed as marshals in public transport buses were removed last year after an objection was raised by the directorate of civil defence that they are meant for disaster management duties. (With PTI inputs)
